This is the very first recording of Bruch's A minor String Quartet, a work he composed during his eightieth year.
The recording was made by the Allegri Quartet with Patrick Ireland in July 1994, at Mells Church in the village of Great Elm, England. The piece is coupled here with Brahms' powerful G major Quintet Opus 111. "This is its first recording and the freshness of ideas and argument is most winning,"remarked The Guardian.
