Peaux ”Peaux” AMCD 891 Release date: 2002-04-10 Peaux was founded in Stockholm in 1994. Initially Peaux was an ordinary percussion ensemble playing composed music. Occasionally, they say today, that was a rewarding as well as an enjoyable experience. But in the end it wasn’t enough. Peaux listened to other music, lived different lives and seeked out other experiences. Some of them felt more satisfied in the rock and pop bands they also played in and gradually they ended their cooperation with composers, placing their musical future in their own hands. Since this decision, Peaux has frequently been asked what they play. Peaux has answered that they play their own material, that they are a band playing music they think matters. No more complicated than that. But with this answer, they do not really answer what kind of music they play. Is it pop? Jazz? Maybe some kind of experimental dance music? Or consider the fact that all the members in Peaux are percussionists. Does this mean that they like the proverbial percussion ensemble? The answers to all these can be found in the band's self-titled debut album. The optimal way to approach it is without any preconcieved notions. Peaux, as all artists, have their influences, influences that probably have affected them so profoundly that it is hard to trace them in what the band does today.
