Bobo Stenson/Lennart Åberg
Amcd 892
Release date 2003-10-01
Bobo Stenson and Lennart Åberg are two of Sweden’s most prominent jazz musicians, two continuously growing forces that, like oak trees, identify new shifts in the wind but always remain recognizable.
For over thirty years, these internationally acclaimed cornerstones of the Swedish jazz scene have played with everyone. Kenny Wheeler, Don Cherry, Carla Bley, Charles Lloyd, George Russell, Jan Garbarek, Peter Erskine, Paul Motian, Bernt Rosengren, Rolf Ericsson, Jan Johansson are a selection of names that cover a wide field within jazz.
As composers, they have never hesitated to absorb all sorts of impressions and then place their entirely original stamp on them. During recent years, Lennart Åberg has mainly written for larger groups while Bobo Stenson has focused on his trio.
They have regularly returned to one another, primarily in Rena Rama, but also in temporary groups and projects such as Radiojazzgruppen. This enables the two of them to read each other’s actions inside and out, to counteract and fill in, catch and push away in a free-flowing manner that only two truly close friends can.
