When five of the best, most interesting, most merited, musicians and seasoned studio pros gather around a common project, the keen listener wisely heeds the call. Their name is Oddjob and their lineup consist of Peter Forss, bass, Per "Ruskträsk" Johansson, saxophones, Goran Kajfeš, trumpet, Daniel Karlsson, piano and Janne Robertson, drums. Among them they have played with many well-known professionals, including: Eagle-Eye Cherry, Cardigans, Robyn, Titiyo, Bernard Purdie, Randy Brecker, Lester Bowie, Don Alias, Wyclef Jean, Sting, Roy Hargrove, Fred Wesley, Eric Gadd, Rebecka Törnkvist, Sophie Zelmani, Lisa Miskovsky, Blacknuss All Stars, Nils Landgren, Bo Kaspers, Mauro Scocco, Lisa Nilsson and the Flesh Quartet. Oddjob plays jazz, jazz with a beat. Music with a strong identity of its own but clearly inspired and rooted in the soul jazz of the 1960s and 70s. Echoes and influences of the electric Miles are evident, as well as a touch of Ellington and New Orleans. Traces of Eddie Harris, Pharaoh Sanders and Jimi Hendrix are also to be found in the sound of Oddjob. Though all members in the band are prolific writers, the music making process in Oddjob is very much a collective one. All the tracks but one, their magnificent take on Jimi Hendrix's Third Stone from the Sun, were penned within the band.
