Recorded by Thomas Schmidt in Berlin, October 2003

Adaptations of little tales like Bongo Bar, Girls Camp, or Wedding in a Gherkin Glass make up the irresistible charm of this unusual band. Founded in 2001, Stereo Lisa features two female vocalists, nine instrumentalists, and the Olaf Ton Quintet in the midst of it all. Ingenuity, creative play, and perfect technical skill come up as ingredients for a captivating blend of musical styles, from free jazz to hip hop. In an ecstatic flight of fancy, these musicians celebrate a playfulness that borders on obsession. Apart from Gebhard Ullmann, definitely one of the most important German tenor saxophonists, there are eleven other nonconformists, from Berlin-based dyed-in-the-wool clarinetist Jürgen Kupke to angelic vocalists Ibadet Ramadani and Almut Kühne; for each of them, Benjamin Weidekamp invented tailor-made voices. You'll find no mere fellow travellers or nonessentials in STEREO LISA, even the smallest character in a given story is perfectly cast. So why on earth didn't they do likewise in SAT.1's real Girls Camp show? Well, if they had we would have missed a great story and a good laugh.
