Soko Steidle: Rudi Mahall (bass clarinet), Henrik Walsdorff (alto saxophone), Jan Roder (bass), Oliver Steidle (drums)

Recorded July 09 & 10, 2007 by Ch. Betz

This production by SOKO STEIDLE goes far beyond "improvised music". Every single bit on this album is improvisational free jazz in the truest sense of the word, a strikingly outstanding example for this kind of music. To replace missing themes, each musician keeps throwing suggestive motifs in that are rapidly picked up by the others. The result is impressive: internally coherent pieces of music that are variable in tempo, rhythm, and style. Special quality features include an amazing consistency and an air of suspense that is constantly maintained. Thus the four musicians not only satisfy the most challenging criteria of musical improvisation, but add something they learned from jazz that's vital to this kind of music: they play together like devils and swing like sons-a-bitches. To get there, it sure takes a lot of talent, hard work, and dedication, but equally important is the ability to connect, i.e. to create a supreme synthesis of individuals that make up the ensemble - mission accomplished summa cum laude. After this successful debut I'd like to wish SOKO STEIDLE continued joy of creation. May they last long!
