Like Beny Moré, his voice caresses, like Barbarito Diez he is refined, exquisite. Like his friend Elena Burke he believes that the voice is everything. Unlike any other Cuban soloist, Armando Garzón has a perfectly trained counter-tenor voice which he uses to interpret the indestructible love songs of Latin America, the boleros that, like Garzón and the great Quinteto Oriente who accompany him on this CD, were born in Santiago, musical capital of Cuba.
This, his debut CD, has received major critical acclaim and opens the way for the emergence of a great Cuban star. Armando Garzón, 'The Black Angel with the Velvet Voice' will release his second CD on Corason in 1998: Danzón, in which he is accompanied by the young Turks of Cuban son, the quinteto Los Guanches.
